Panametrics Flare-IQ – TREXM Energy’s Approach to Flaring Challenges

Transcription of full speech by Engr Sunday Ukapi, COO TREXM Energy, at the recently concluded Nigeria Hydrocarbon Measurement Conference (NiHMEC) – Panametrics Flare-IQ

The discussions on advancing efficiency measurement and accounting at this year’s Nigeria Hydrocarbon Measurement Conference have been truly enriching for me, and I hope you feel the same. My presentation topic is Efficient Flare Management – TREXM Energy’s Approach to Flaring Challenges.

Yesterday, during the first panel discussion, the conference Chair, Mr Osten Olorunsola, posed a question to one of the panellists, Mr Remilekun Adeeyo of First E&P, regarding their emissions capturing and monitoring strategies. Today, we’ve heard a lot about accounting technology and how we cannot enhance our operational efficiency without embracing it.

I will be discussing one of the technology products from one of TREXM Holdings’ OEMs. TREXM is a technology solutions company in the E&P industry, and we select applicable solutions for our clients, including metering solutions.

I want to briefly highlight a unique product from Parametrics, one of our OEMs. To start, let me ask: Why flaring? Are there any benefits to it?

Operators will agree that flaring is necessary to keep their equipment and facilities safe. If operators produce gas and can use all of it within the facility, they still need a way to handle excess production. Without the infrastructure to transport it elsewhere, flaring becomes the only option.

However, the benefits of flaring are outweighed by its downsides, which is why the government is committed to eliminating it—Nigeria is no exception. Initiatives are in place, and while progress has been made, challenges remain. If we analyse these initiatives closely, we may find that flaring could persist longer than anticipated. Therefore, the focus for the government and regulators should also be on how to flare more efficiently, which brings us to this product.

We understand the disadvantages of carbon emissions: air pollution, long-term effects on ecosystems, impacts on biodiversity, potential health issues, environmental degradation, and economic implications. Thus, the concept of flaring underscores the importance of finding effective solutions to minimise its impact.

Our OEM, Parametrics, is a technology provider that offers a range of metres and other facilities, including the Flare IQ, which I want to discuss in more detail.

Panametrics Flare IQ

Panametrics Flare IQ is a cutting-edge device designed to provide accurate and reliable measurements of flare gas emissions. Its key feature is the provision of real-time methane emission quantification and reporting. This technology also offers an innovative full-stream flare solution to optimise your flaring operations.

Not only does the Flare IQ record and report your flaring data, but it also enhances compositional efficiency and provides digital verification of flow metres without the need for manual intervention. Plus, it helps avoid black smoke.
